Chocolate Macaroon Squares

Coconut


18¼ oz. box Duncan Hines butter chocolate cake mix
1/3 cup softened oleo
2 eggs
14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk, not evaporated
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/3 cup flaked coconut
¾ cup chopped nuts, optional


Beat cake mix, butter and 1 egg in a large mixing bowl until crumbly. Firmly press into bottom of greased 13" x 9" baking pan. Combine sweetened condensed milk, remaining egg and vanilla in medium bowl. Stir in chocolate chips, 1 cup of the coconut and the nuts, if using.

Spread over crust. Sprinkle with remaining coconut. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 350 degrees 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown (center will set when cooled). Cool in pan. Makes about 2 dozen squares.
