Dial W-F-E-C for service

Soon you can keep more of your money while you keep in touch. Next month, West Florida Electric, your Touchstone Energy® cooperative, will begin offering domestic long distance telephone service at highly competitive rates. And, unlike other long distance carriers who charge as much as $5.95 monthly just for providing the service, in addition to per-minute usage fees, WFEC won’t charge a minimum monthly fee for its service.

Also, instead of basing its per-minute usage fee on 30-second increments, as most carriers do, WFEC will bill for six-second increments to more accurately reflect customers’ actual calling time, instead of the nearest half-minute over. So, for instance, if you talk for only 35 seconds, you won’t have to pay for a full minute. WFEC’s rate for interstate calls will be 5.9 cents per minute, and its intrastate rate will be 8.9 cents per minute.

Customers can sign up for the service online, by calling a toll-free number or by completing a mail-in application form. You can opt for billing in print on your regular local phone bill or electronically via the Internet, and you aren’t required to have WFEC electric service to take advantage of the Co-op’s long distance service.

WFEC also will offer convenient, affordable cards for pre-paid long distance service, as well as calling cards that defer charges to your phone number when you place long distance calls from another location. These cards are ideal for frequent travelers, college students or far-flung family members or friends. The cards will feature a photograph of the Touchstone Energy® hot air balloon, along with WFEC’s logo.

WFEC is adding long distance packages to its services in response to consumers’ input. In a survey earlier this year, 28 percent of WFEC’s customers, or member-owners, expressed an interest in acquiring long distance service through the Co-op. In fact, among services not currently offered by WFEC, long distance telephone service was the most desired by the survey respondents.

WFEC’s long distance service is provided through the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative, which supports more than 1,000 rural utilities in delivering telecommunications and information technology solutions to their communities.
